At this time, you cannot see in the calendar whether an accommodation is unavailable because it is occupied or due to some other reason. For example, on days between departure and arrival new guest (important because of Corona), or a closure of the entire accommodation.

Is this configurable, or perhaps an option to build in?

The calendar can show a different colour between available dates, unavailable dates and dates which are available on request.
If you want to highlight specific dates but not have them instantly bookable you can set them to request.
One way to do this is to setup exception bookings to be request status and override the specific dates to exception status.
