We are almost entirely dependent on bookings via the Internet since we have deliberately decided not to advertise our presence with a swinging "Vacancy" sign.

Consequently it is crucial for us that the Beds24.com server is running quickly and is available to take reservations for us worldwide.

We monitor the uptime and speed of our own site, http://www.amberhouse.co.nz, with a server monitoring service called Hyperspin:
http://www.hyperspin.com/en/network.php

Is there a publicly accessible link to the monitoring reports for Beds24.com?

(Here's a report for our own website for the last 5 years

We monitor the service in real time for faults but unfortunately this does not provide historical data.
For your interest I have today setup an account at pingdom.com which will provide a public uptime report for beds24.com at the following URL http://stats.pingdom.com/qfmfhtp3gph6

As to uptime in general. We patch our servers with the latest security updates as they become available. This often involves a re-boot which can result in 1 or 2 minutes down time every week or so.
The other cause of downtime is hardware upgrades, we upgrade to the latest generation of hardware approximately every 2 to 3 years and this can involve some hours of downtime depending how smoothly things go.
Apart from that there are always going to be things fully outside our control including everything from failures at our technology suppliers to diggers digging up cables.
Over the last 6 years operation we have had only a couple of incidents outside our control and have been able to maintain an excellent up time which I am sure is well over 99,9%.

Terrific!

One thing I did notice about Pingdom, is that it only displays monitoring results from Europe and North America.

If you look at the response times for Beds24.com measured by other services from stations in (for example) Singapore and Brisbane, Queensland, Australia they are about 3 times worse (and 4 times slower from those same stations than our own website hosted in USA).

Although our own home page is notoriously large, the slow Beds24.com performance from Asia and the Southern Hemisphere (relative to our own site) does mean (since calls to the Beds24.com server are made early in our page code) that our page is significantly delayed in loading from some of our key markets in New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, etc...

I shall e-mail you privately with the URL to see the one-minute interval statistics...

The Beds24 server is located in Europe, naturally the further away from Europe you are the longer the data takes to come through the wire.
As a test I did a traceroute from a computer in Melbourne Australia and have a response time of circa 350mS. (i.e. 1/3 of a second)
I don't have access to a computer in New Zealand but you can try using the following windows command, please post your results from NZ or anywhere so we can see where the performance is good or not so good.

tracert beds24.com

This was the result from Melbourne.

From Nelson, NZ it was similar as from Melbourne:

However, I'm not sure that traceroute results correlate well with page load speeds from various locations.

Subjectively (ie using Airport lounge computers in WLG, CHC, AKL, SIN, HKG, KUL, HAN, CEB, DEL, BKK, TPE, PHG, etc) I do notice that there is often a long delay while my calendars load...

I found these sites interesting and informative:

In an airport lounge you are often sharing the internet with 10 or more people at the same time.
The bottle neck loading your website in cases like this is simply the capacity of the local internet connection to handle so many users, when it gets busy everyone slows down.

There is a really cool plug-in for firefox called "tamper data"
It lists every item being loaded by your browser and how long it takes for any web page you view.
It is a great tool if you are looking to see what is going on "under the hood" as your page loads and a good starting point for optimising load times.
