How do you get "alert emails" in particular forums?

Sorry to post this in the wrong forum, but in the "General" forum I could not see an "Add New Topic" button.
Presumably because there are no topics posted there yet. Forums that already contain at least one topic have a "NEWTOPIC*" button visible...

1) I wanted to post in the "New Features Requested" forum but could not (because of the problem described above)

2) In my user dashboard I wanted to be alerted by email to new messages in certain fora but I could not find a way to subscribe to them.

I went to
http://www.beds24.com/forum/ucp.php?i=m ... subscribed
"Manage subscriptions"

and read the rubric:
"Below is a list of forums and topics you are subscribed to. You will be notified of new posts in either. To unsubscribe mark the forum or topic and then press the Unwatch marked button."

However it told me
"You are not subscribed to any forums.
You are not subscribed to any topics."
and, ignorant fool that I am, I could not find any way to either list or subscribe to forums and topics!

[This condition is despite a tick appearing in the "[] * Subscribe topic" box at the bottom of each topic I wish to alerted to;
the row that has: * Board index * Subscribe topic * Bookmark topic]

Hi

I am still coming to grips with the forum myself but I believe the creator of a topic is automatically subscribed, if this is working you will be notified by email of this post.
This assumes you have entered your email address in the User Control Panel >> Profile >> Edit Account Settings.

Otherwise there is a link in the footer of all Forums and Topics starting with "Subscribe ..." or "Unsubscribe ...". Clicking this link will manage your subscription status.

EDIT: 16/04/2012 I purposely edited this post just now to check the edit post notification system.

That would certainly seem logical, Mark.
Unfortunatel, when I try to change my email address from the pre-entered "amberbb" string to my real email address in the User Control Panel >> Profile >> Edit Account Settings it keeps telling me my password is wrong...

I'll private message you tomorrow...

There is indeed a link in the footer of all Forums and Topics starting with "Subscribe ..." or "Unsubscribe ...". Clicking this link will manage your subscription status but presumably it is ineffectual until I can correct my email address.

Please see the following topic with instructions to change your forum email address in the second post.

The alert emails now seem to be working well so I am alerted to new posts (for a particular topic) when they are made.

I see that you have now fettled this board so that edits to posts (and the latest editing date) is now marked on a post.

Some edits can be quite material
(for example, adding a new requested feature here: https://www.beds24.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=28 )
so is it possible to be alerted to new edits (as well as new posts) in a topic?

I think the best way is to post a new reply at the bottom of the topic pointing out that you edited something, preferably with a copy or summary of the edited content.
That way it makes it easy for readers to identify what was edited and when by scrolling through the posts.
